La Fondation Œuvre de la Croix Saint-Simon, Paris. France

Created in 1906 and recognized as a public utility since 1922, the Fondation Œuvre de la Croix Saint-Simon meets the health and medico-social needs of vulnerable people, from birth to the end of life.

A secular foundation, it works for people made vulnerable by age, precariousness and illness and accompanies the family from birth to the end of life.It takes its name from the location of its former historic headquarters located on rue de la Croix Saint-Simon in Paris in the 20th arrondissement.

It supports nearly 100,000 users, patients and families per year, within its 50 health and medico-social structures and its Institute of Paramedical and Social Training (IFPS).

It offers a global, complementary and diversified range of services because it is concerned with meeting the needs of young and old alike in accordance with the principles of well-treatment and secularism, and offers reception, accompaniment, support, care or medical or medico-social support:

  • Health: An ESPIC composed of a multipurpose Home Hospitalization Service (HAD), 3rd in France, operating in the Île-de-France, the management of the National Center for Palliative and End-of-Life Care (CNSPFV), extended by decree on January 28, 2022, for a period of five years and two Medical and Dental Health Centers (CSMD).

  • The Elderly – Disabled People Unit: A Residential Establishment for Dependent Elderly People (EHPAD), four Day Care Centres (CAJ), two Home Nursing Care Services (SSIAD), a Medico-Social Support Service for Disabled Adults (SAMSAH) and a Respite Platform for Caregivers (PFR), the pivotal referent for the PFRs of Île-de-France.

  • The Early Childhood Centre: Three Maternal and Infant Protection (PMI) centres, a Relay of Parental Auxiliaries (RAP), a specific day care centre at La Villa Vauvenargues dedicated to parenthood and the care of young mothers, in conjunction with local hospital and social partners, and thirty-two childcare facilities for young children in Paris.

  • Training and Research Department: A Paramedical and Social Training Institute (IFPS) preparing for diplomas in nursing, nursing assistants, childcare auxiliaries and educational and social assistance (450 students), a Nursing Training Institute (IFSI), a Training Institute for Childcare Auxiliaries (IFAP), a Childcare Nurse Training Institute (IFIP), a Social Work Training Institute (ETS), a continuing education department and a research department in connection with three universities (Paris XI, Paris Centre and Paris VIII).

The Maria Grzegorzewska University  is a university of an 90-year-old teaching tradition. Among its biggest assets are highly qualified staff, diverse programs of study and improved conditions of studying (new premises as well as well good quality IT equipment). It provides a range of varied study opportunities including acquisition of respectful jobs which are highly demanded in the job market.  Nowadays, APS  has approximately 7,000 students enrolled in both full-time and part-time study programs. In addition, the Academy offers various postgraduate programs which enable to acquire complimentary qualifications allowing working in education as well as other job tasks.  Within the Special Education programmes we focus on training of teachers and teacher assistants to children, adolescents and adults with intellectual difficulties, hearing, speech or sight impediment, motor impairment, physical disabilities as well as emotional and behavioral disorders. Our pedagogical courses prepare for working both at school (a school pedagogue) and other special education centers. It also aims to educate in the general field of social pedagogy. This refers to family support services, cultural and educational activity in a local area, continuing education of adults, job counseling, community prevention (i.e. street education) and psychopedagogy of creativity, which is designed to prepare for non-standard educational work with children.Master degree program in psychology started in the academic year 2007/2008 at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Psychology at the Academy of Special Education has three specializations – Clinic Psychology, Community Psychology and Development Support Psychology. As far as the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences is concerned, it is the first high education institution in Poland to have started a full-time social work study program. The course is designed to meet the needs of the growing population of the elderly, disabled or chronically ill who need professional care and support. The university educates professional social workers within a full study program, which is comparable to similar courses of the European standards (previously, social work faculty was incorporated into other social science courses).  Beside educational activity, the university is involved in a wide range of interdisciplinary scientific research. In addition, APS  conducts various projects under the auspices of the European Social Fund.

The Health Sciences Unit of the Faculty of Social Sciences (SOC) at Tampere University is a multidisciplinary health education and research unit comprising twelve disciplines: biostatistics, epidemiology, gerontology, global health, medical philosophy and ethics, nursing, public health, social psychiatry, social and health policy, sociology of health, health economics and occupational health.
In health sciences, we research factors that affect health, the means and effectiveness of health promotion and disease prevention, the different areas of health care and health policy, and the foundations of care, health and well-being. The research topics are central to society and are situated at the intersection of the two main areas of expertise at Tampere University: social and health research. The Unit’s broadest cross-disciplinary research areas are child, adolescent and family health and health promotion, ageing and the ageing population, mental health and the health care and social service systems.

Faculty of Social Work (University of Ljubljana) is the only social work higher education establishment in Slovenia. By its education process and the practice of social work, the Faculty of Social Work aims for the development and dissemination of theoretical concepts, models and methods of social work which would contribute to the establishment and maintenance of fundamental social values and goals such as: provision of the quality of life for individuals, families and groups of the population; social justice, human dignity and equal opportunities; promotion of solidarity and social integration, prevention of poverty and social exclusion.Since its establishment in 1955, the Faculty has represented a pillar (in some periods the only one) of the development of the Slovenian social work, and the field of social care in general. It has developed a high level of teaching, mainly based on its own scientific and research activities as well as good knowledge of international trends. The Faculty has been the carrier and initiator of a large number of innovations, without which it would be hard to imagine social work in Slovenia. It has developed forms and methods of work that represent the basis of contemporary social work in our country: counseling, group work, community work, street work, and work with families etc. It has established the foundations of voluntary work, action research and qualitative research which has not only influenced the social work field but also played an important role in Slovenian social sciences more generally. It has developed special fields such as working with youth, the elderly, women, people in mental distress, with a physical handicap, ethnic minorities etc. It has also made a great contribution to the development of concepts and innovative solutions in the field of social care (for instance, social first aid, home help, group homes, safe houses etc.). Faculty have experiences with inclusion of users in education processes and planning. With its activities - practical teaching, training, research and development projects, and publishing - the Faculty co-operates with numerous associations and non-governmental organisations. Their members, professionals and experts by experience are included in Faculty’s programmes as co-teachers, and the Faculty staff participates in the work of these associations as consultants and councillors, lecturers etc. Some associations use Faculty’s premises and other facilities for some of their activities.

Psychiatric Research Unit, Region Zealand, Denmark

Psychiatric Research Unit, Region Zealand (one of five geographic regions in Denmark) is located at the New Psychiatric Hospital in Slagelse.  The hospital is situated close to the existing somatic hospital, and together the two buildings form a health campus for the entire Region Zealand, playing a significant role in health, education and research.  The hospital has 194 beds, an emergency department, outpatient clinics as well as facilities for research and education. In addition, a new high secure unit (the only one in Denmark) is located in the area and has 30 beds.  Psychiatric Research unit, Region Zealand is affiliated with University of Copenhagen, Institute of Clinical Medicine and University of Southern Denmark, Institute of Psychology. The Research Unit is also collaborating with University College Zealand.  The unit is responsible for all psychiatric research carried out in Region Zealand. three professors, several associated professors and senior researchers are employed.  Currently we have 20 PhD-students.

​SDHI is funded through the Universities of St Andrews and Dundee and has a track record of facilitating and promoting inter-disciplinary research. The institute has close links with both NHS Fife and NHS Tayside, providing interdisciplinary research and training opportunities for health care workers and allied health professionals. Much of the research outputs feed back into the health service through knowledge exchange to inform policy and practice. Alex Baldacchino, associate director of SDHI, is professor of medicine, psychiatry and addiction at the University of St Andrews and is Lead Clinician & Consultant in Addiction Psychiatry at Queen Margaret Hospital in NHS Fife.

The Mental Health Department of the Local Health Care Authority no.5 Rovigo

The Mental Health Department of the Local Health Care Authority no. 5 "Polesana"- Rovigo operates within an area of 51 Municipalities between the River Adige, the River Po and the Adriatic Sea, with a total population of 230.000 inhabitants. The area of intervention of the Department is divided into two districts: District 1 Medio Polesine and District 2 Basso Polesine.  There are three different articulations of the Mental Health Dept. to provide assistance in the districts. The Mental Health Centre has de-centred outpatient clinics: Rovigo, Adria, Badia with a Day Care Centre and a DHT in each of them.  In the local health care authority, there are 7 residential structures which differ in dimensions, patients’ typology, aim and degree of protection, in a range going from GAP (Protected group apartments), to CTRP with 24 hours protection. The Mental Health Department has also two Psychiatric wards (SPDC) of 12 beds, each where people experiencing severe psychic crisis can be admitted – voluntarily or non-voluntarily.

The Paris University Hospital Group for Psychiatry & Neurosciences (GHU-Paris in French) is not just another psychiatric hospital. A network of community psychiatric services, the GHU covers a major part of the city of Paris, an inner-city area with high levels of unemployment, exclusion, immigration, drug use, HIV/AIDS and poverty. Fifty different inpatient and outpatient facilities provide mental health care to a target population of some 700,000 people.

​

GHU-Paris is a recent creation. On the first of January 2019, Maison Blanche, Perray-Vaucluse and Sainte-Anne Hospitals all merged into the Paris University Hospital Group for Psychiatry & Neurosciences. The three hospitals had been working closely together over the past years, defining a common medical strategy, designing a territorial care framework and establishing a joint leadership. With nine university departments and a whole series of innovative research units, GHU Paris fosters clinical practice, training and research which constitute the basis for developing new strategies in mental health care, promotion and prevention.

​The Fenix Association is an independent non-for-profit and voulunteer-based organisation of mental health service users and of those who support user movement. The purpose of the Association is to improve mutual support, alternative ways of dealing with crisis, cooperation in creating and modifying mental health policies, and evaluation of activities conducted by public institutions that work in the field of mental health, all with the final goal of improving the quality of life of mental health service users.

The Association conducts its activities in collaboration with various governmental and non-governmental stakeholders, as well as foreign and international organisations active in the field of mental health. Fenix is internationally recognised as a strong actor in shaping trends of supporting the inclusion and involvement of users in social and economic processes.

EPAPSY currently hosts 174 people with mental health problems in 21 residential facilities and provides more than 14500 therapeutic acts through 2 mobile units, 1 day centre and 2 community action programmes.  Established in 1988, it is funded by national funds (the Ministry of Health) as well as the EU.  It operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Health, but functions under private law as a public body. It is a founding Member of Association of Families for Mental Health in Evia, N. Attica, Veotea,  of the Social Cooperative of N. Attica, Greek Network of NGOs for Mental Health.

One of its centres, Hospital del Mar, has close links with the two of Barcelona’s principal universities, hosting many specialty services: care in the home, transplants, stoke rehabilatition, addiction services. The hospital is located directly alongside the prestigious IMIM, a centre for biomedical research which is currently involved in various European projects.

In tandem, we help people to access information about the steps they can take to reduce their mental health risks and increase their resilience. We want to empower people to take action when problems are at an early stage. This work is informed by our long history of working directly with people living with or at risk of developing mental health problems.  The Mental Health Foundation is a UK charity that relies on public donations and grant funding to deliver and campaign for good mental health for all.

The aims of the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology are to improve health care in the field of psychiatry and neurology and to conduct research in these and allied fields.  Research programs are focused on pathogenesis, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of brain disorders as well as mental health promotion. The newest sector: Mental Health Centrum – is functioning as a community mental health care system, broadly implementing the idea of self help management of mental disorders.  A Mental Health Program for Poland was developed by the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in collaboration with the WHO. The Program was accepted by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology is responsible for the Program implementation. The hospital wards of the Institute provide treatment to patients with mental and neurological disorders mostly from the Mokotów district (with the population of about 400,000), also serve as a nationwide consulting and treatment center.  In 1992 Institute attained the status of WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Mental Health. It has been extended by WHO during the following years.  From 2004 the users are evaluating the services provided by the Institute, giving feedback to the researchers, clinicians and management.  In January 2005 Institute acquired ISO 9001 – 2000.
