PROMISE

PROMISE (2010 - ?) aims to develop and disseminate multi-disciplinary mental health promotion training guidelines and training programmes for professionals. These will be generic and also specific in relation to suicide, depression, and alcohol & drug abuse. A specific innovation is the involvement of mental health service users in developing the guidelines and programmes with a special emphasis on positive mental health, healthy living, diet and exercise.

The general objectives are to identify and disseminate public policy guidelines for best education practice and generic training for professionals and with respect to mental health promotion and illness reduction for adults (18-65). Specific applications will be to the prevention of suicide, depression, and alcohol & drug abuse.

The project will be delivered in collaboration with European health and social service professional bodies, European level university networks, and other public and civil society organisations. It  aims to build on the achievement of previous relevant public mental health promotion projects through careful consultation and collaboration with them. It also seeks to involve new non-traditional, marginalised and socially excluded actors such as mental health service users in this process.

The Project Co-ordinator is Professor Peter Ryan , Middlesex University,  London  UK.
